The Cumulus Paris Conference was the latest destination for CBi in its mission to bridge the design cultures of China and the rest of the world.

An international association of the leading universities and colleges in the fields of art, design, and media, Cumulus is a pioneer in developing jointly-organized MA programs, intensive workshops, exchanges, biannual conferences and support.

CBi founder Cathy Huang was invited to join a panel discussion with other international leaders in design as part of the three-day conference from May 19 to 21, which had the theme “Transversality in Design.”

Joining Cathy in the wide-ranging discussion were Anne-Marie Boutin, President APCI; Fabienne Camas, Plan Creatif Agency; Jean-Claude Charlet, CPI Program; and Yo Kaminagai, RATP.

The discussion focused on the needs of designers to develop a wide-range of cross-disciplinary skills, particularly managerial; how design teaching programs will adapt to the new approach and perception of design in companies and society as a whole; and how design can become an interface between research in all domains and socio-economic issues.

The conference also hosted working groups, a fair showcasing new Cumulus member institutions, and other round table discussions.

“The conference was a great opportunity to learn more about the current and future trends in design thinking from our international counterparts, and its impact on societies across the globe,” said Cathy. “It was also inspiring to see so many people sharing CBi’s ideals of promoting design thinking in management, and the crucial role that design can and does play in a broad range of aspects, both in commerce and our daily lives.”
